How the 90/180 rule works
- 1
Look back over the 180 days ending on the day of the check
- 2
Count every day of presence — entry and exit days included
- 3
The total must stay at or under 90 days
The rule is simple to state but easy to miscount: you may spend at most 90 days in any rolling 180-day period. The window is not a fixed calendar block — it moves forward every day. To check your status on a date, count the days you were present in Schengen during the 180 days leading up to (and including) it. As old days drop out of the back of the window, you slowly regain allowance.
